We have rescued a total of 37 cats!!! 20 adult cats, 3 kittens, 3 Mother Cats and their 11 Kittens!!! They will all be spayed/neutered before being sent to the adopter. Some of the cats are quite sickly, so they will be treated before they are spayed or neutered.

There are still a few more cats at Pn Robbiah's that we have not been able to catch today. If any of you have the resources to help out in catching them etc, please give Pn Robbiah a shout.

THE RESCUE OPERATION

SPONSORHSIP NEEDED FOR PN ROBBIAH'S STRAY CATS

A good Samaritan who wishes to remain anonymus has called me and offered to take ALL of Pn Robbiah's cats. They will be well looked after, and will have lots of space to roam etc. Her only condition is that ALL of them MUST be spayed and neutered before she takes them. She has also offerred to sponsor the spaying and neutering of 10 of the cats, but has requested that I raise the funds for the rest.

Therefore I would like to appeal to all of you to please sponsor the neutering of at least 1 cat.

The cost of neutering is a MALE cat is RM75.00 including post-surgery care
at Setiawangsa Veterinary Clinic

The cost of spaying a FEMALE cat is RM120 including post-surgery care
at Shah Alam Veterinary Clinic.

This does not include amounts that may be incurred for treating cats that are sick, and THIS PRICE IS A ONE TIME DEAL only for Pn Robbiah's cats. These vets will not be taking in cats for any other cases.

Pn Robbiah is a 58 year old retiree that feeds and cares for over 30 stray cats in her area. Quite a number of these cats have actually been dumped at her home. With her limited means, she does the best that she can for these unwanted strays.

Many of them are sickly, and she takes them to the vet for treatment and looks after them as best as she can.

However, recently a neighbour filed a complaint to MPAJ. Pn Robbiah has been given till Sunday 5 June to remove all the cats from her premises and surrounding area or they will be confiscated.

Hello, my name is Scruffy.
I am about 2 or 3 months old now and am looking for a forever home.

I used to live in the Hulu Kelang market. I was very sick and suffering from a severe case of sarcoptic mange. Because of that people didn't like me and used to kick me to get me away from them.

I could not understand why they couldn't see that all I wanted was for someone to love me, epsecially since my mommy died from eating some poisoned food...

Thankfully I was rescued from the market and my condition has improved significantly. My skin no longer smells bad, and all the nasty crusty stuff has gone away. My fur is starting to grow again too...

My carers think that I should be able to go to my new home soon.

As you can see I am a playful and energetic puppy but I am also a quick learner. I will do anything to please my new "parents".

I have already started potty training and I am proud to say that I can now hold my bladder for over 2 hours. My carers are very pleased with my progress, as I have already learnt not to "poo" in my crate. I have had ZERO poo acidents after my first day of potty training! :)

I will need lots of exercise, and hope to be able to go for daily walks. I will also need some obedience training, but I will need someone who will teach me with kindness and patience. I would like someone who will also spend time with me, and not leave me all alone for long periods.

I will be a faithful, loyal and loving companion,

YUMMY SIZZLING STEAKS

Am off to Jakarta again for work, which will mean days of mediocre food at best...

So I guess I can only dream of this delicious sizzling pan fried fillet steak I had at Coliseum about 2 weeks back! Sigh...

The Coliseum really has the most amazing steaks ever! They are cooked to perfection and the sauce is absolutely delicious.

When you step into The Coliseum you will feel like you have been transported back in time. The place feels like it's a hundred years old with it's dim yellow lights, saloon doors, aged table cloths and creaky furniture, plus ancient and grouchy Captains to boot! Captain Ho (who knows the extensive menu by heart) was probably about 100 years old when I first met him years and years ago! And he's still there...

Also the prices are quite reasonable, RM39.90 for a huge steak if I remember correctly!

If you haven't been to The Coliseum, you must. Just being there is a real experience in itself...

I haven't been blogging properly for quite abit as I seem to have run out of ideas to post. Anyway, I then thought that since our favourite past-time is eating, I decided that I will try to post pictures and things about what and where we have been eating as best as I can...

Kedai Makanan Yut Kee on Jalan Dang Wangi

So first up, is our favourite Sunday brunch haunt! The good old Yut Kee on Jalan Dang Wangi!

I have been eating here since I was a little girl, albeit not too often as it was considered a treat to eat out... And my late mom used to eat here too from when she was a young girl, and she used to love the Pork Chops!!!

Anyway, being the absolute gluttons that we are, we somehow always manage to have 4 meals between the two of us at Yut Kee... This particular weekend, we both had a Chicken Chop each, a portion of Roast Pork and also a Curry Mee to share...

This will normally be the sight that greets you when you arrive at Yut Kee regardless of how early you get there! Yes, be prepared to stand in the sun and wait to get a space at a table! It's well worth it though!

The yummiest roast pork ever! A must have!!! Our strategy is to order a portion to "take away" while we wait to get a space!

SNATCH THIEVES ON THE PROWL IN AMPANG!!!

Hi all,

It has been ages since I last blogged, but an incident yesterday prompted me to write this post...

I was out walking Rascal and Belle together with Douglas at about 4.30pm yesterday. As we were approaching our house, I heard a motorbike behind me. I pulled Rascal closer in to me to keep him safe. However I soon realised something was not right, as I felt that the bike was very close to me. As the bike was passing me, I turned to tell them what idiots they were for coming so close to us and our dogs.

To my shock, as I shouted "Idiots!!!", I saw the pillion rider reach out his hand and grab at my neck. It was quite a hard thump, but thankfully he didn't manage to hurt me or get my chain. I think it would have been a very different story if I wasn't aware of my surroundings...

Douglas shouted at them as soon as he realised that they had hit me, but they zoomed off. I noted down the license plate number but it was incomplete as it was half broken, so I only got the number : 8594.

I think what surprised me most was that they tried this in broad daylight, and eventhough I was accompanied by a big hefty guy, i.e. Douglas and 2 dogs!!! It shows that these are desperate times, and that there are plenty of desperate people out there who will resort to desperate measures.

So ladies, please be careful especially if you're on your own. And even if you're with your boyfriends or husbands, please be very alert!

I am passionate about dogs which I am sure is evident to all of you. I have been involved in rescuing and rehabilitating dogs on my own, and with support from a great network of like minded people in Kuala Lumpur.

When I moved to London I discovered the Mayhew. I decided to become a volunteer and work with the dogs there. I was amazed at the level of care and attention that was given to each animal at the home.

The work that The Mayhew does would not be possible without generous donations from the public. Therefore I am taking part in the British 10K run in July 2009 to raise some money for the Mayhew Animal Home.

Why Cancer Research UK?

As some of you know, my mother passed away suddenly last November from a very aggresive form of lung cancer. She was diagnosed at the end of October and within 3 weeks she was gone.

We didn't even know what happened especially since she was the healthiest in the family and was hardly ever ill. Plus the fact that she never smoked a day in her life made things alot harder for us to understand.

We realised that we knew very little about cancer and while there are revolutionary treatments currently available for cancer - there is still alot of research that needs to be done.

My sister Bernadine and I, are taking part in Race for Life 2009 in support of Cancer Research UK, and more importantly in memory of our mother, Roline Ong. We will be running under the banner of Avanade UK - my current employer in the UK.

This was the most snow I have ever experienced in London! Out here in the Docklands, where I live, we had about 10 inches of snow I think...

Well it wasn't as much compared to the amount of snow that one would get in Canada or America... but it was enough to bring London to a grinding halt...

Yup, that meant that I couldn't go to the office yesterday cause there were no trains or busses or anything for that matter...

THE PERILS OF LIVING IN LONDON

You know how you always think that the grass is greener on the other side?

Well I used to think that England was a fab place to be in... but now that I have been in London for over a month, I am beginning to think that London isn't all that green...

Well for those of you who know me, I have lived in Cambridge, England for 3 years between 1996 and 1999 and I absolutely loved it. After I returned to Malaysia I visited England on a yearly basis, and this included many trips to London.

During my previous visits, I found it suitably interesting as a tourist.

However,I am beginning to think that KL is alot more interesting, practical and functional as a city - apart from the lack of public transportation.

It is incredibly difficult to get anything done in London! Especially if you have just moved here and you're trying to setup all the basic necessities...

It took me more than an hour on the phone, before I managed to get a mobile phone registered in my name. The person on the phone just could not understand what I was saying... it took him about 10 minutes to even get my name right, and I was actually spelling it out using military type code like this

N for November

I mean it can't be that difficult right? I then tried using names of countries instead and he still managed to get it wrong...

Anyway, it also took me over an hour to get mobile broadband. The guy at the counter had no clue what he was doing. He had to process my application 3 times! One of the many reasons was because he kept typing in my postcode wrongly.

You see, here they have a system where if you type in a post code, all the possible address options will appear and you just select the correct one, so obviously he couldn't select the right one cause he kept keying in the wrong post code.

And he kept telling me that my address was not turning up. So I made him turn the screen to face me and that was when I realised that he kept keying in WIH 5LR instead of W1H 5LR. I mean if I had written it down maybe he could have gotten it wrong, but I was saying it to him several times over!!!

When he finally got it right, it was rejected because I didn't have a previous UK address. And I had already told him that I just moved here and therefore wouldn't have one. So then he had to call into their sales centre or something and get some authorisation code, and get this, key in all the information again.

When he finally got it right, it wouldn't print. I asked him if the printer had just broken down, to which he replied no. It was broken from this morning??? So he had to then fill out a manual form, and he managed to get my name wrong and my address wrong eventhough he was again copying it from the screen???

When he finally finished and had to take a deposit from me, he processed my credit card 3 times cause each time a blank piece of paper would come out. My friend asked him if he had the paper fed in correctly, to which he said yes. When it didn't work the third time I demanded he call the manager cause I didn't want my card swiped a million times and then have it blocked by the bank. And guess what, the paper was fed wrongly!

Okay so you guys may just say that they're just sales people and therefore can't be very clever blah blah blah...

So here's the icing on the cake!

I received my first credit card statement from a very reputable international bank, and it clearly stated that I had no previous outstanding balance and that my first payment was due at the end of October.

But at the same time, I had a huge warning note on the very same statement stating that I had not paid the minimum payment from the last statement, and therefore legal action will be taken against me if this payment was not made within 10 days of the statement date!

I was furious and when I called the said bank, they couldn't comprehend what I was saying??? After about 20 minutes of arguing they finally admitted that it was a printing error???

And then today when I tried to make payment towards my credit card, I just could not do it on the internet. Why? Cause the internet banking facility here is so pathetic, it's unbelievable! They have the credit card provider listed as a merchant to which you can transfer payment, but there's nowhere for you to indicate your name or your credit card number, and guess what? The bank details of that merchant on the facility is wrong???

I swear our Maybank2u.com is a million times better and more efficient.

So then I tried to call in to make the payment and after providing a million details, they tell me that the bank has barred my payment. And when I called the bank to ask why this was so, they said that it was because I provided the wrong address. And then when I checked the address details that they had for me, it was exactly the same address that I had provided in the first place.

And here's the best part - as part of security, they needed my mother's maiden name. So being half chinese my mother's maiden name is obviously chinese. So let's say my mother's maiden name is Mui Yin Fong. They asked for the 2nd letter of the name, which is U, and the 5th letter of the name which is I.

Guess what? They told me that I had got it wrong. And after several attempts, I asked them to check if the name was in fact MUI YIN FONG. And they said yes, so then I asked them so isn't the 2nd letter U and the 5th letter I, and they said NO??? So frankly I have no idea what the 2nd and 5th letters of my mother's name until now...

I am now beginning to realise why a really dear friend of mine was bemused when I called him to tell him that I have re-located to London. He asked me why I had come back, and that I should have just stayed in Malaysia cause England has degenerated so much since I left in 1999...

Sigh, I am beginning to realise that it's true...

LIFE IN LONDON

It has been a while since I last posted... am trying to adjust to my current life in London. Am missing the kids a whole lot... but at least I got to "see Cleo" on Saturday. Douglas organised a video conference of sorts for me and Cleo... She wasn't very impressed she could only hear me cause I don't have a web camera yet, but I could see her... and I think she recognised my voice...

Well I have finally gotten an apartment here... it's a really nice apartment out in the Docklands albeit a bit far from civilisation.

I had a very interesting weekend as I visited the Mayhew Animal Home. It's out in Kensal Green and I have signed up to volunteer there on Saturdays. I should be starting in October and am looking forward to that. In the mean time, for those of you who are on this side of the world, please do visit their website... It's quite amazing what they do... and maybe you can contribute in one way or another.

THE RIGHT MOVE?

Douglas and I have just made a HUGE decision... Most people don't know about it yet as we weren't quite sure if it would happen...

Anyway, my business partner and I got a fantastic job offer in London... After much deliberation, Doug and I decided that I should take it...

So I shall be off in August and I am getting quite stressed. I have a million things to do and so little time to get everything sorted. But most of all I am dreading being away from Doug and the kids...

We're just hoping that we've made the right decision...

This post is somewhat delayed but never really found the time to do this...

Anyway since Ferrari took the first 2 places on the podium today in Bahrain, I thought I had better post this...

Douglas managed to get us grand stand tickets to the Malaysian Grand Prix last month! I had a brilliant time as my fav team and driver won the race - i.e. Ferrari and Kimi!

This was the nasty car park - thank goodness for our Land Rover cause there was a massive jam when the race was over - but we managed to get out without using the normal trail! We basically bull dozed our way out of the area much to the annoyance of all the other people who would probably have been stuck in the mud... :)

Yes, we are trying to buy a new house after selling the previous one... This ons is our DREAM HOUSE!!! It's a corner house and it's HUGE and well renovated... We really like it and are trying our best to purchase it...

Esp when you're not sitting in wads of cash, and you're desperate for the banks to give you an offer letter asap so that you can put an Earnest Deposit down on the house...

For those who have never purchased a property before, here are somethings that you will need to think about before being able to:

Do you have the 10% deposit in cash?
If not, do you have the 10% in EPF or somewhere else?
If you do, is your income sufficient to get the remaining 90% from a bank?
If yes, have you got all the required paperwork to ensure that the banks will give you the 90%?
If not, how will you make up the difference between the amount that the bank is willing to offer and the balance of the purchase price?
Oh wait, will the bank even value the property at the purchase price that you've agreed to?
If not, see question 5.
Oh but you need to put at least 2% down in Earnest Deposit to secure the property or you may lose it while waiting for the banks to process your application...
But then if your application falls through, you'll lose that 2%!!! (Note that 2% can be quite significant depending on the value of the property!)
If the loan is approved, have you got sufficient amounts to pay all the legal fees involved in this purchase? Note that there will be 2 sets of fees: Legal fees for the Loan documents and Legal Fees for the Sales & Purchase Agreement. Note that this can easily come up to RM20k for a RM350k property...

So for those of you who are thinking of purchasing a property, your answers to these 10 questions will give you a pretty good indication on whether or not you can manage to purchase that elusive piece of real estate!
